Master Degree vs Kerja

Apa khabar? Hope anda semua sihat di musim2 pandemik ni. Jaga SOP and go get your vaccine okayyyy??? Haritu Nur ada buat Q&A in instagram story, ramai request for this topik sambung Master or kerja? First of all, ni semua Nur punya opinion tau tiada paksaan pon tau nak follow ke tidak... hehehe kena declare awal2 nnti susah sis hehehe 🤭 Tbh, this topik depends on tuan/puan punya badan but i will try my best to share my experience okay?

From my view kan, I would love to suggest you all go through these few questions before betul2 register master:

• Course apa yang patut aku amik?

• Should I go for coursework, mix mode or research?

• Aku nak buat part-time ke full-time? - need to be aware that part-time master ni takde scholarship

• Aku sambung master ni untuk kepuasan sendiri ke or influence by friends? - alaa mcm kawan2 hang smua ada master hang tahap degree je. You mcm rasa rendah diri gitu but it actually fine tau ada degree je ke diploma ke just be yourself tau. At the end of the day, your friend tu tak suap hang and family hang 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

• Adakah aku ada fulus or fund yg cukup untuk tampung kos study tu?

• Adakah bidang aku sekarang ni perlukan master degree?

• Ada beza ke if aku sambung master in term of salary? - if you guys dah kerja laa gituu 🙈 because some company will only pay you based on the minimum requirement, if the company stated minimum requirement degree je, then they will only pay up to degree level je if you ada master ke degree ke tak kira... sebabtu penting kaji dulu sebelum sambung belajar

• Adakah you sambung master untuk demand gaji or like secure higher salary?

• If you chose part-time, nak kena tanya will you have time to attend class after office hours? Sanggupkah anda untuk sacrifice your weekend for classes and assignments?

• Yang paling penting sekali your intention to continue study tu. What is your intention? if untuk demand salary, you silap laa if you habis degree terus sambung master and nak demand gaji. Nowadays, people cari Experience > Education. If your niat is for gaining new knowledge, you are on the right track gitu but if you amik mix mode. If you amik research ni takde class so mmg kurang sikit dapat ilmu baru unless related to your research.

I put scenario laa senang nak cerita, contoh if Nur habis degree dalam bulan November gitu. I will do a job hunting start bulan August gitu, sebab I taknak menganggur lama lepas hbis degree. But make sure you put the availability date on your resume so the employer boleh expect when is your employment date. This is what i've been practice and alhamdulillah Nur be able to secure a job before graduation 👩‍🎓

PATH 1: If Nur still tak dapat any job after one month habis degree, i will go terus daftar master. Sebab the priority now is getting the job, if belum ada rezeki lagi to get a job i will sambung master full time sebab i rasa dari i buang masa cari keje why not i add more skill or knowlegde gitu and bare in mind that full time student ni banyak scholarships that you can apply. Tapi ni semua my opinion tau.

PATH 2: If in case you got a job after hbis degree en, I will at least give me one year to stabilize my time, study my career macam masa dia, task dia smua tu and boleh ke aku commit another job which is being a part-time student. Setahun keje tu hang boleh kumpul first payment of your master fees. Master fees ni dia bayar per sem, so take susah2 pikir nak cari duit lump sum gituu. -- this is actually my path 😉 my plan mmg nak sambung master before I’m 25 y/o so yeah I chose the second path due to I dah dapat keje before I habis belajar.

So lepas anda dah tekad nak sambung master, you all kena survey which university offer the course that you want, the fees, the duration, the class time if you amik part-time, the scholarship available. Macam Nur dulu sumpah gamble, tibe2 Nur bangun pagi pi buat research pasal master ni smua. Masa tu dah middle of February gitu, Nur tekad jugak nak join March 2021 intake, so Nur pi call management, call dekan untuk push my name in the list sbb dah lepas tarikh berdaftar for March intake. Alhamdulillah i got in with the help of dekan hehehe 🤭 Nur pilih taught-course or mix mode which is Software Engineering major Mobile Development dekat UTeM sebab UTeM je ada course yang saya nak and paling kena dgn bajet hehehe sebab self-funded kan hehehe maklumlaa sis baru keje baru nak mula hidup and Alhamdulillah i still can manage it 🧖🏻‍♀️ Masa nak cakap kat parents tu sis siap buat presentation tau, but comparison semua. If ada lagi slide tu Nur share 💅🏻
